Easter is coming and as churches prepare for the big day and Christians around the world partake in lent, I find myself a wee bit frustrated. Though I am suppose to be reflecting on the great sacrifice Jesus made for me, I AM MAD @ God. GASP, did she just say that? Isn’t that a sin? Yes, I am not too pleased with God this morning. It happens whenever I am faced with so many trials that I almost feel like I can no longer breathe. (can you relate?)
As I write this devotional, I have so many matters and issues to deal with that my mind feels like it is on a merry go round. In the midst of my storm, I ask God Why? Where are you? and When will you deliver me? It’s extremely difficult to stay positive sometimes when life keeps hitting you with a ton of bricks. But as I reflect on my situation, I am taken to the Garden of Gethsemane. Here I witness the agony felt by Jesus. He pleads with God for deliverance but then says something that hits home for me.
Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. – Luke 22:42
Our lives should always revolve around the will of God. No matter how rough the situations may appear. No matter how burdensome they may feel, we must remain in line with the will of God. He sees the bigger picture and is guiding us accordingly. Sometimes his will for us at the moment just won’t make any human sense. We must remember that our human sense is common sense and we serve a God who is not common. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. There is nothing common about him. Therefore, his ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. We can not even begin to understand the things God is protecting us from or preparing us for.
Because we do not know what our future holds, we must develop a level of faith that will follow his will even when it feels like we are headed the wrong way. He knows where he is leading us and when we get there we will understand the journey. Jesus went through the agony. Jesus was led to Calvary. Jesus was hung on a tree. BUT, today Jesus is seated on the right hand of God in honor and glory.
We too can make it but we must first decide to follow the plan he has laid out for us. It feels crazy but it is for our good. It seems backward but it will take us forward. So, yes I was mad @ God this morning but Jesus reminded me that he too suffered even worse hardships but God was faithful. Now, my anger has been replaced with worship because I know God is faithful and that where I am now is but for a minute. He will answer my prayers when the appointed time has come. In the meantime, I will praise him in advance.
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name – 1 Peter 4:12-14, 16
Forgive me for my human faults. Help me to understand that you know what is best for me and have a plan for my life. Teach me how to be patient in tribulation knowing that you will never steer me wrong..
Saturday morning I had an interesting talk with one of my best girlfriends, Stephanie, about the Praise factor. We are living in an age where Praise is no longer a sacrifice offering but an art. It almost appears that there are the dos and donts of Praise. You will lift up your hands (though you don’t know why), you will say Hallelujah (though you are texting while saying it), you will recite the same “talk” that every one else says (because it shows that you have the gift of tongues when you actually don’t ). Praise has become an art show and not a personal gift to God for his goodness.
I have had the privilege to attend services at numerous churches across many denominations. I have seen Praise in all formats. Yet, there is one thing that I realize that we, the people of God, have not yet perfected or even understand. WORSHIP. As a special breed of people set aside by God, we have failed to give Him the worship He deserves.
Our fast-paced, I-need-everything-to-happen-now attitude has filtered into our Worship. Everything else gets our very close attention, but God gets what’s left over. Some of us may set time apart in the morning as we should, but how rushed is it? When we meet someone that we truly want to befriend, we take the time to get to know everything about them (well, as much as we can..). Why is this not the same with God?
As our Father and friend, we should devote the time necessary to get to know Him. We CAN’T truly WORSHIP God if we don’t KNOW who he is. We all have an idea who he is but KNOWING him is a whole other ball game. It is when we know Him that we will be able to worship him. It is when we worship him in spirit and in truth that we will be able to offer him a true sacrifice of praise.
True worship doesn’t wait till Sunday/Saturday, it goes on all week. If you worship him daily, the praise team won’t have to coax you into worshipping him in service. If you have set apart time for him on a daily basis, you won’t have to be ramped up to bring forth your praise. As children of God who have been created in his image and redeemed from sin through Jesus Christ, we have a lot to worship him for. When I think about where I would have been if not for God’s grace, I can’t help but to bow down and worship him.
God is a good God. As a matter of fact, he is the ONLY God and he knows every grain of hair on your head. He watches over you and gives us the air we breathe. Let us worship him! Not only for what He has done, is doing or will do, but because of WHO HE IS. Remember, anyone can praise, but can you WORSHIP?
Think about it!
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his [a] ; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. -Psalm 100
Thank you for being who you are which is everything to me. I apologize for my form of Godliness. Teach me to worship you in spirit and in truth….
This morning I feel like I have been hit by tractor trailer. Every joint in my body is hurting and I can barely get out of bed. My parents kept calling out for me thinking that I had overslept but I couldn’t muster the strength to let them know. When I finally did, my mom came over and started to cry and worry like any mom would.
What are we going to do? You’re killing yourself working full-time and going to school full-time. God can’t let anything happen to you, what would we do?
I calmed her down by just passing my pain off as fatigue. Obviously, this was far from the truth. (As I am writing this devotional, my shoulder joints are killing me)
I admit that things are a bit rough for my family this season and we can’t afford any calamities, disasters, or deaths to come even close. However, I refuse to live life worrying about what I can’t handle. Worrying does nothing but dwindle our faith. When things get rough that’s when my God is my shelter. I run to Him and hide under the shadow of His wings.
Many times the enemy will play our current situation on repeat just to rattle us and cause us to renounce our faith. When he does this, I remind him of Job and how his end rewards were greater than his suffering. I remind him of how faithful God has been in the past. I remind him that he tried this with me before and look where God has brought me.
We need to learn how to speak back to the enemy. Rebuke him with the Word of God and keep trusting God. Yes you may not be where you want to be, but thanks be to God that you are NOT where you use to be. I have learned to see beyond my current circumstances. I know God is faithful and just. If my mom can cry out of concern, what about my heavenly Father who made me with his bare hands?
You may be going in circles in life and wondering is God even there, I am writing today layed in bed and in pain to tell you that YES GOD IS FAITHFUL and STILL ABLE. Do not lose hope or let go of His unchanging hand. Let him bring you through and praise Him along the way.
Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly – Job 8:7 (NKJV)
I am grateful for your faithfulness. Help me through my journey and keep me under the shadow of your wings. Teach me to see beyond my circumstances and to trust your will for my life…
I woke up this morning singing an old choir song.
When the battle is over
We shall wear a crown
We shall wear a crown
We shall wear a crown
When the battle is over
We shall wear a crown
In the NEW Jerusalem
At first I was just running it through my mind, but after a few runs I realized that I really started to get into it. There’s just something about knowing that a crown awaits you. With all of the challenges that we face in life, knowing that Jesus will crown us with a crown of glory empowers us to press on. The Apostle Paul tells us that I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus – Philippians 3:14 (KJV). We are being called to a higher plane but we are fighting an enemy and he is not going to let up just because we tell him to leave us alone.
This is why, we must arrive to the place in our lives where we proclaim Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him. – Job 13:15. God never promised us a smooth ride through life. Christianity doesnt promise a bed of roses. Many Christians have the erroneous notion that life gets trouble-free when we decide to follow Jesus and that satan has no power. WRONG! He has power and life will come with challenges BUT, greater is He that is in us that he that is in the world. – 1 John 4:4. We serve a mighty and able God. Therefore, we must walk and live in victory knowing that we have already won the battle through Christ Jesus.
I leave you with the lyrics and video of my new favorite song.
God is able to do
Just what he said he will do
He’s gonna fulfill every promise to you
Don’t give up on God
Cause He won’t give up on you
Remember, God is able!
Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. – 2 Chonicles 20:15
Thank you for already winning my battles. Teach me how to walk in victory and remind me daily that you are greater than the enemy…

Today, we contemplate silence over at aholyexperience.com. I decided to switch it up a bit and talk about believing when Heaven is silent. Hope you enjoy!
I have always wanted to purchase my first home within my early 30s. Matter of fact, the goal was to get it at 30 so that I can pay it off by retirement. The way things are going right now with this recession having me counting pennies, some would say that I am overly ambitious. However, when I consider the works of God in the Bible, I am actually right on target.
God created the world in just 6 days by simply speaking it into existence. He brought a whole nation out of slavery and gave them a new home. He blessed Abraham with a new land. Since God did it for them and He is no respecter of persons, He can and will do it for me.
Many times we aspire for things but allow our current situations to decide what our future will bring. Though our present may look dim, our future is in the hands of the almighty. I may not have the money now, but HE DOES. I may not know how it will work out, but HE KNOWS.
I remember when my mom was hunting for a new house. She didn’t have the kind of money most realtors were looking for. As a matter of fact, a lawyer told her she didn’t make enough to buy a home. Despite all of these blows, she kept on believing and proceeded to pack up the whole house. She prayed, packed, believed and went house hunting.
She did this for months and months. Then on February 21st 2007, she was able to purchase a new home. Not only did she get her new house, but she purchased it in the area that the lawyer said she could never afford. (Boy did I want to take a picture and mail it to him.)
God know what’s in store for us because He holds us in the palm of His hands. Whatever it may be that you are believing him for, keep holding on and don’t stop believing. Want a house? Car? freedom from debt? No matter what people say, keep on believing. Even if no one else in your family believes, BELIEVE. You don’t need a cheering squad to believe, God is sufficient.
Keep believing God for your miracle, He will show up and don’t be surprised if he shows off when He does. His timing is not to punish you, it is to bring Glory to his name. You see when God tarries, the world is watching. They say “she can’t do it”. (Their right, I can’t but God can) There is no way. (God makes a way out of no way) It’s impossible. (Nothing is impossible to God)
No matter what man may say, I know that when God shows up and gets the impossible done, they have no choice but to bless His name. They will realize that only the hand of God could have brought this to pass and God will get ALL the glory.
Let God use you for His glory. The best is yet to come. Don’t give in when your blessing is around the corner.
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. – 1 Peter 5:10 ESV
Thank you for reminding me that a delay is not a denial. Help me to continue believing in you for my blessing. Use me Lord for your glory.
Last night I finally got a chance to watch the Daystar Sharathon. For the past couple of months God has put in my heart to sow a seed of first fruits. This is a gift aside from tithes and offerings. Although I wanted to do it, I didn’t know what ministry to support. The more confused I got, the more I realized that God hadn’t yet answered (He is not the author of confusion). So I kept on praying.
While watching the Daystar channel, I clearly heard a resounding YES! However, the amounts they were asking for were too rich for my blood. So, I kept on watching and said Lord, this is all I have on my account. I want to give it to You. Immediately after I said that, Minister Marcus Lamb said, “I am going to do something I have never done in this Sharathon, I am going to ask for $___.00 dollars (you don’t need to know how much I donated…loll).
Amazingly, the amount he asked for was exactly what I wanted to give and it left me some excess. I immediately picked up the phone and sowed my seed. It amazes me how God hears even the silent whispers. It was a one sentence prayer yet, He heard it. God saw the sincerity of my heart and my desire to go deeper in Him. So, He maneuvered things to accommodate my desire.
Funny enough, He did it twice this weekend. My 30th birthday was last week Monday and I was a little sad that I couldn’t celebrate it. I shared my sadness with God and just went on with the day. Saturday Kenton promised to take me out so I got dressed and we drove to the destination. He blindfolded me and led me to the location and when I removed the blindfolds, lo and behold I saw all of the people I love pointing roses to me. There were exactly 30 roses!!! I could have passed out. God once again heard my inner whisper and came through.
We should encouraged to know that God hears our prayers. He is attentive even to the whispers we make. When Hagar was cast out into the desert with Ishmael, she left the child and said Lord do not let me see the death of the boy. The Lord brought forth water in the middle of the desert and said He heard the cry of the boy “where he is.” (Genesis 21:16-17). So no matter what you are going through, God hears you where you are.
Our Lord is an amazing God. When we come before Him with sincere hearts and right motives, He will tend to our needs. I pray that today’s meditation will remind you that no prayer is too small. No request is too menial that God won’t hear it. Make your request known and watch Him maneuver things in your favor.
My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord. Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He chastens. -Hebrews 12:5,6
Thank you for reminding me that you can hear even my whispers. It is good to know that You are concerned about every prayer I utter and no matter where I am You hear my prayers. Teach me to trust in You….
It’s 7am! Ok, time to get ready to go. I open the door and OH NOOOOOOOOO, SNOW! It’s such a pain to shovel the thing but I must admit that it is such a beautiful sight. (Check out the view from my door) I reflect on how creative God is and realize that everything that He has created displays His sovereignty. Only He could cover the Earth in a white blanket.
Nature serves as a daily reminder that there is a mighty God. A God who cares about all the little things of the Earth. He cares for the itsy bitsy spider, He feeds the sparrow, He waters the plants, He feeds the fish, He provides for the ant and causes the sun to shine for the flowers. He cares for all of His creations; Yet, Humans can not learn to rely on Him and trust Him.
If God can provide for the birds of the air, why wouldn’t He provide for you? Only an Almighty God can order the rain to fall, the sun to rise, the moon to give light and the snow to blanket the Earth. We serve an omnipotent God and we are reminded of this simply by looking around us.
As I head out to shovel the snow and get some groceries for the second wave of the storm, I will praise the Lord for His beautiful handiwork. How awesome is He and mighty indeed. Today, take some time to recognize the magnificence of God. Look around you and see the intricacies of His creations. Then, lift up your voice and worship Him. WHY? Because the same God who created all things, has promised to take care of you.
The heavens declare the glory of God;the skies proclaim the work of his hands. – Psalm 19:1
Thank you for your handiwork. Your beautiful canvas leaves me in awe. Help me to trust that you will always provide for me…
