Have you ever fasted from something for a while and just when you start feeling proud of not falling into it again, YOU DO!? Though it feels/tastes so good to have it after so long, you end up beating yourself up about it for the rest of the week. The enemy just loves to prey on us when we sin. It makes him extremely happy to see us fall. One of his tactics to keep us down is to let us guilt ourselves to death.

Unfortunately for that scoundrel and his cheeleading demons, David left us a clear example of how to get right with God once again. David committed some of the gravest sins but, he had a sincere repentant heart. He knew he was wrong and asked God for forgiveness. The most important thing is once he repented of his sins, he didn’t wallow in self-guilt. He thanked God and started to praise Him.

As I start my fast over (ughhhhh), I am reminded that God forgives and loves a repentant sinner. When we bring our case to the Lord, he cast them away and gives us a brand new start. He doesn’t hold it over our heads nor does he make an example out of us. In his love and tender mercy, he blots out our transgressions and gives us another chance.

I’m starting over with the assurance that God has heard, forgiven and released me once again. You may be struggling with guilt from something you did, thought, saw, etc. Whatever it may be, God just wants you to confess it unto him and trust him to forgive you. Don’t allow the devil to throw you a pity party. God is the God of second, third and thousandth chances.

Tell him all of your burdens and leave them at HIS altar. Now when you bring them to his altar, don’t you dare pick them up again when you leave! Trust that He’ll take care of it. From here on out, commit to keeping your vows to him. Don’t place yourself in predicaments that would cause you to sin. Like Joyce Meyer said last night, if you want to lose weight don’t go to the bakery store and stare at the cake.

I pray that this devotion will be a blessing to your soul and free you from unnecessary guilt.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. – Psalm 103:12

Prayer Prompt:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for being such a forgiving God. I am grateful for your grace and mercy that grants me a new start when I have fallen. Teach me how to have the repentant spirit of David. I want to keep my vows to you Lord. Help me to do what you have called me to do.

Have you ever seen a child who gets caught doing what they’re not suppose to be doing? If they have some form of consciousness, they will shiver in their boots and start crying right away without you ever having to say one word. My niece is notorious for this. The minute you say “Kailah”, she starts pouting and is one step away from tears. Most of the time, I end up hugging and playing with her to show her that I still love her.

As I ponder on this, I am the same way when it comes to God. I am my harshest critic when I do something wrong. I will beat myself up about it all day. I can’t believe I did that. What is wrong with me? Sorry God. Please don’t turn away from me. See what I mean? By the time I am done with myself, God is still standing there waiting for me to shut up so He can hug me and say you’re forgiven.

I get so caught up scolding myself that I end up having a pity party all by my lonesome. Pity parties are notorious amongst women especially. Everyone has a man but me. I am not pretty enough. I can’t believe I am turning 30 and not yet married (that last one there is me.)

Many of you can relate to this. Self-guilt and pity parties can cripple you and they are exactly what the enemy uses to keep us from seeking God. He tricks you into thinking that God is this villain that pounces on you the minute you fail and doesnt give you what you want because you don’t deserve it. THIS IS SO FAR FROM THE TRUTH. God is a merciful Father who loves us greatly and forgives us when we come to Him with a sincere heart. He is not an angry villain waiting to destroy you the minute you fall. He doesn’t hold back your blessing because you are a sinner. If this were true, humanity would be extinct and no one would ever get any blessings.

The Bible says ALL have sinned. Not some, ALL. When we fall short of God’s will, we need to ask for forgiveness, get up, dust ourselves off and get back on track. King David was a prime example of someone who knew how to keep on keeping on with God. Though David committed some of the gravest sins – murder, adultery, envy, etc. – he knew how to win God’s heart. David had a repentant spirit and sought God every time he fell short. David asked for forgiveness and then went on to praise God.

He didn’t have a pity party, he didn’t spend excessive time beating himself up. He went straight to God, asked for forgiveness, made his petitions known and went on keeping on. As Christians we too need to develop a spirit of repentance, learn how to forgive ourselves and make our petitions known to the Lord and trust Him to fulfill them. God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us. Therefore, we should not let the enemy condemn us or keep us from His throne.

I am turning 30 on February 22nd and I AM PROUD! The enemy kept me from seeing the blessings I have received by having me focus on one thing that I do not yet have. Don’t let that scoundrel keep you from counting your blessings. Today, I am counting my blessings and I am celebrating 30 years of life in advance. As a matter of fact, I bought myself my first birthday gift today. (Isn’t it pretty?)

When the enemy tries to throw you a pity party, turn around and COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS! I guarantee before you get to number 7, you will be dancing and shouting Hallelujah.

I don’t know what you did this week or this morning that the enemy has you beating yourself up for. I dont know what accomplishment you haven’t yet completed that he is throwing you a pity party for. I have come to let you know that God has already paid the price for your sins and He is working on your blessings. All you have to do is confess, ask for forgiveness, forgive yourself, accept yourself, make your petitions known to Him and keep on keeping on. Remember, a saint is not one who has never fallen, but one who has fallen and gets back up again.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus – Romans 8:1

Prayer Prompt
Dear Lord,
I’m sorry for falling short of your will. I am sorry for focusing more on what I don’t have than on what you have blessed me with. Please forgive me and help me to forgive myself. I know I am not perfect but I know if I keep on keeping on, you will help me to come out victorious….
